Meet the Pro.

For the 2024 season, Rishton Cricket Club have secured the services of Burnley born Kieren (Grimmy) Grimshaw as their professional player.

This follows on from Kieren making two appearances for the club as sub-pro at the end of last season against Church and Great Harwood.

Kieren was born in Burnley on the 14th May, 1998.

As a promising junior, Kieren was playing in Read Cricket Clubs 3rd XI at the age of 10. Progressing to play for the 2nd XI when aged 13 and the 1st XI at just 15 years of age.

He then joined Accrington Cricket Club in 2015, spending five seasons playing for the Thorneyholme Road club. In his five years at Accrington, Kieron developed as an all rounder scoring 2,434 runs at an average of 26.5, including fifteen half centuries and one century, and he also took 53 wickets at an average of 24.7.

For the 2020 season Kieren joined Ramsbottom Cricket club, playing for the Acre Bottom team for three seasons. He was made 1st XI captain part way through the 2021 season, and led his Ramsbottom team to a memorable victory in that year’s Worsley Cup Final against Rochdale, hitting 149 and picking up the “Man of the Match” award.

In his final season with Ramsbottom he scored 1078 runs in all competitions and took 52 wickets.

For 2023, Kieren signed his first professional contract for Heyside Cricket Club, Oldham who play in the Pennine Cricket League. Kieren had a good season scoring over 800 runs in all competitions and taking 40 wickets.

On a personal level Kieren is single and at the moment lives locally in Simonstone. He has just recently returned from a three month stay in Perth, Australia where he had been playing for Balcatta Cricket Club who play in the Western Australia Suburban Turf Cricket Association competition, helping them to win the 1st Grade One Day Grand Final against Bentley Cricket Club.

Looking forward to the 2024 season, Kieren’s ambition is to get Rishton Cricket Club moving back in the right direction on the field, from junior players through to the first team. Pushing for a mid-table finish as a minimum, but with a feeling that if the club can get on a good run promotion could be achieved. He is also looking for a good campaign in both the T20’s and cup competitions.

Good luck to Grimmy and Rishton Cricket Club for the coming season.
