The weekend started with frustration when both the 1st and 2nd teams Worsley Cup games against Rochdale were called off due to unplayable grounds.
There was even more disappointment on the Sunday. The 1st XI were away to Bacup while the 2nd’s held the reverse fixture at Blackburn Road.
The 1st XI made a good start bowling Bacup out for 119. Chasing what should have been an achievable target we made a bad start with both openers being dismissed with only 5 runs on the board. We then lost a third wicket with only one extra run having been scored. Despite pro Kieren Grimshaw scoring 21 and Afaq Sartaj scoring 15 we were bowled out for 64 off just 25.1 overs.
The 2nd XI just like the 1st’s looked to make a good start. After Bacup won the toss and elected to bat they were held to just 121 for 8 off there 45 overs. The best of the bowling was by Sahan Senaphathi who took 4 for 19 off 12 overs. Again with what seemed a reasonable target runs were hard to come by with only Aaron Greaves (11) and Mubs Kahn (17) managing to get into double figures.
The Bank Holiday Monday fixture saw Rishton’s 3rd XI taking on Rishton’s 4th’s. Having won the toss the 3rd’s elected to field.
The 4ths made a good start but were disappointed when opener Stefan Heins had to retire injured when on 12. The 4th’s when on to make 115 for 5 off their 40 overs with Stuart Roberts top scoring with 56 not out.
Despite Aaron Greaves scoring 30 and captain Brad Sawer scoring 25 the 3rdXI were bowled out for 95. The best of the bowling for the forth’s came from Paul Clark who took 3 wickets for 10 off 8 overs, though all the bowlers chipped in with valuable contribution with Danny Morton, Graham Lightbown, and Rayan Stewart each taking 2 wickets and Neil Wells 1.
