The weekend was a little disappointing with much of it being rain affected.
The planned T20 home game against Lowerhouse CC was called off, along with all the T20’s due to be played that night, and has been re-arranged for June 28th.
The 1st XI should have been at The Alexandra Meadows, Blackburn on the Saturday playing East Lancs CC in the Worsley cup, but this was also called off due to the ground being unplayable, with this game now having ben rearranged for the coming Saturday June 1st.
The weather on Sunday was a little better and both the 1st XI and the 2nd’s managed to start their respective games.
The 1st XI where at home to Nelson CC, with Nelson winning the toss and electing to bat. A decision they would ultimately come to regret.
With both opening batsmen being dismissed without scoring, Nelson found it hard against some excellent bowling from Pro Keiren Grimshaw and Ali Sartaj.
With Grimshaw taking 5 wickets for 12 from 9 overs and Sartaj 4 wickets for 18 from 8, Nelson were all out for 31 from 17 overs.
Rishton easily ran down the runs needed scoring 33 for 1 off just 12.1 overs with opener Sam Molloy hitting an unbeaten 12 and Grimshaw with 11 off 8 balls, being awarded 12 points.
The 2nd XI were away to Nelson at Seedhill, and after winning the toss they decided to bat first.
Rishton’s batsmen found runs hard to come by with just Miya Lunat (32 no) being the only batsman into double figures as Rishton’s score was 77 for 6 after 23 overs when heavy rain forced the match to be abandoned, with both teams being awarded 5 points.
With Monday being a Bank Holiday both the 3rd’s and 4th’s had fixtures arranged.
The 3rd’s home game was called off early Monday with the ground being unfit after heavy overnight rain.
The 4th XI however where away at Rawtenstall CC which seemed to have avoided any of the rain that had affected Rishton.
Rishton won the toss and put Rawtenstall into bat.
Rishton had Rawtenstall at 95 for 5 at one point, but with Peter Gibbons going on to score 50 before losing his wicket to Neil Wells, helping put on 62 runs for the 6th wicket, Rawtenstall going on to score 179 for 9 off 39 overs.
Rishton started their innings well, putting on 44 runs for the first wicket, when Danny Morton was dismissed for 41.
With Adam Hussain (30) and Graham Lightbown ( 38) Rishton went on to score 167 for 7, losing by 12 runs in a very close game, leaving them in 7th place in the league.
