The weekend started with the 1st XI playing their first T20 fixture of the summer at Accrington’s iMEP arena.
Accrington won the toss and elected to field. Richard Fox and Brad Boddie opened the batting for Rishton, who were stunned when Fox was dismissed for 4 leaving Rishton 6 for 1. The second wicket, that of Luke Eddleston fell with the score on 29.
Boddie was then joined at the wicket by professional Keiren Grimshaw, and between them they put on 61 runs for the third wicket when Boddie was dismissed for 40. With Grimshaw ending up on 56 not out, Rishton ended their 20 overs with a score of 131 for 4.
Accrington started their innings well putting on 34 for the first wicket. However, due to some excellent bowling, wickets soon began to tumble with Accrington being bowled out for just 86.
While all of Rishton’s bowlers played their part, the star of the night had to by Andrew Hickey who took 3 for 9 from 4 overs.
Saturday saw the 1st XI in action at the Alexandra Meadows, Blackburn against East Lancs CC in the Worsley Cup.
Rishton won the toss and elected to field. Excellent bowling again from Rishton had the East Lancs batsmen struggling to score and wickets soon tumbled with Rishton bowling the home team out for just 44 runs off 29.2 overs.
The best of the bowler’s had to be Ali Sartaj who took 5 wickets for just 11 runs off 10 overs, ably supported by Keiren Grimshaw (3 for 5) and Adam Hussain (2 for 15).
Rishton’s batsmen hit the required runs within 10 overs giving them the victory which see’s them progress to the quarter final and a trip to Greenmount CC on Saturday June 15th.
Sunday’s game saw the 1st XI taking on Greenmount CC at Blackburn Road. Greenmount won the toss and elected to field.
With Hunter and professional Snyman opening the bowling Rishton’s openers found runs hard to come by and it wasn’t until the 5th over they registered the first runs on the board. With only Richie Fox (22) and Grimshaw (46 no) reaching double figures Rishton struggled to get to 120 off their 50 overs.
Greenmount found runs easy to come by in their innings with Snyman scoring 65 no ably supported by Kerr (35) and Townsend (11 no), hitting the required 121 runs in just 25 overs.
In the reverse fixture the 2nd XI were away at Greenmount in a game that saw both teams tie with scores of 119 all out.
Best of the Rishton batsmen was Lunat who top scored with 56, and with the ball captain captain Khan and Senapathi who took 4 and 3 wickets esch.
On the Saturday both the 3rd’s and 4th’s were in action with the 3rd XI losing to Middleton CC by 8 wickets and the 4th XI losing to Greenmount 3rd’s by 91 runs.
