So the black chair was out and the spotlight fell upon eleven competitors to see who would become Rishton Cricket Clubs Mastermind Champion for 2024.
With specialist subjects ranging from British cars of the 50’s and 60’s, NBA from 1995 onwards, Black Adder, Game of Thrones, and Formula 1 in the 1990’s, once the specialised round was completed it was close at the top with Dave Hill having scored 15 out of 15 on One Hit Wonders of the 60’s and 70’s, Cheryl Roberts getting 14 on the Big Bang Theory, and Julie Harris having got 13 on Tsar Nicholas II and the Romanov’s.
The general knowledge round was tense, with at one point Glenn Fox, whose specialist subject had been the Beatles, moving into first place. Neither Julie Harris or Cheryl Roberts could gain enough points on this last round too dislodge Glenn from top spot.
Then came Rishton legend Dave Hill to the chair needing 6 to tie and 7 to win, and scoring 8 points on general knowledge taking the 2024 title.
